The Anaheim Ducks have finalized a trade that sends Trevor Zegras to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Ryan Poehling and two draft picks.

The deal includes the number 45 selection from the 2025 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in 2026.

Poehling, 26, has played in 283 games in his career with the Canadiens and Flyers, accumulating 43 goals and 95 points.

This trade represents a fresh start for 24-year-old Zegras, who was selected in the first round (No. 9) by the Ducks in 2019.

Zegras caused a sensation in his rookie season, leading all NHL rookies in points per game (0.81) and power-play goals (9). In addition, he finished second for the Calder Trophy, surpassed by Moritz Seider of Detroit.

However, in the last two years, Anaheim and Zegras have privately discussed the possibility of a change of scenery that would benefit both the player and the team. Zegras understood that he was not in Anaheim’s long-term plans, although he worked hard to improve his game, including focusing on defense.

Both the Flyers and the Ducks will have new coaches next season. Rick Tocchet will take over in Philadelphia, while Joel Quenneville was hired in Anaheim, in an effort to move forward.

Anaheim, in particular, considers the 2025-26 season with urgency. Recently, the Ducks acquired Rangers veteran Chris Kreider in their attempt to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

Zegras, a native of Bedford, New York, has scored 67 goals and 186 points in 268 games in his career. He was developed in the US National Team Development Program and at Boston University.
