The Buffalo Sabres captain, Rasmus Dahlin, has returned to the team after an absence to be with his fiancée in Sweden, where she continues to recover from a heart transplant. Dahlin, 25 years old, rejoined the team before Saturday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings. His fiancée, Carolina Matovac, began to feel ill last summer while she and Dahlin were vacationing in France. She suffered sudden heart failure and received life-saving care on the way to the hospital. Matovac remained in Sweden to recover when Dahlin began the new season with Buffalo before returning to be with her on November 7th.
Coach Lindy Ruff said Dahlin’s return was a boost for the rest of the Sabres, who had a 0-3-0 record during his absence and a 0-10-2 without him in the lineup since December. She is an absolute warrior. She strives every day, and improves every day.
Rasmus Dahlin
The defenseman is in his second year as captain of the Sabres and has been the anchor of the defense practically since Buffalo selected him first overall in 2018. Given Matovac’s health problems, it has been a distracting season for Dahlin, but he has managed nine points in 14 games and has a heavy workload of more than 24 minutes per night.Everything went well, so he’s eager to play again. Every time you get your captain back, it’s a boost for the team, and I think everyone was excited to see him.
Lindy Ruff
She has inspired me and many people, that’s for sure. I feel much better now, mentally, and I’m in a good place, so I’m here to help the team.
