Blues’ Jimmy Snuggerud to Miss Game Time Due to Injury
St. Louis Blues rookie forward Jimmy Snuggerud will be out of action for up to six weeks due to surgery on his left wrist, the team announced this Monday morning.
Snuggerud, 21, was selected in the first round by the Blues in 2022. In the first quarter of the season, he established himself as a key forward. His five goals put him near the top of the team, and his 11 points placed him in sixth place. In addition, he averages 15:26 minutes of ice time per game, being the seventh forward with the most time on the ice.
His performance allowed him to stand out in a rookie class that has shown a great impact. Snuggerud was among the top eight rookies in terms of goals scored.
If the recovery follows the estimated timeline, Snuggerud could return to the team in mid-January, which would allow him to participate in about 10 games before the NHL Olympic break. The Blues will play their last game before the break on February 4th.
Not only is Snuggerud injured, as the team also announced that forward Alexey Toropchenko will be out of action for several weeks due to burns on his legs suffered in a domestic accident.
Toropchenko has recorded a goal and two points, averaging 11:29 minutes of ice time in 17 games this season.
These absences are the latest setbacks for the Blues, who, despite having reached the playoffs last season, have faced one of the most difficult starts to the season in the NHL in this first quarter of the season.
St. Louis (9-10-7) was on Monday in a group of five teams that were two points behind the last wild card spot in the Western Conference, occupied by the Chicago Blackhawks.
