Blackhawks Bolster Offense with Burakovsky Acquisition

The Chicago Blackhawks have announced the addition of Andre Burakovsky, coming from the Seattle Kraken, in a strategic move that seeks to strengthen their offense. The exchange involves Joe Veleno, who will now be part of the Kraken. Burakovsky, 30 years old, contributed 37 points (10 goals and 27 assists) in 79 regular season games with the Kraken during the last campaign. The player, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has a $5.5 million cap hit for the next two seasons, remaining from his five-year contract.

Burakovsky has a total of 387 points (153 goals and 234 assists) in 696 career games, playing for the Washington Capitals (2014-19), Colorado Avalanche (2019-22) and Kraken. He was selected by the Capitals in the 23rd position of the 2013 NHL Draft. Veleno, 25, recorded 17 points (eight goals and nine assists) in 74 games last season, split between the Detroit Red Wings and the Blackhawks. His career includes 81 points (38 goals and 43 assists) in 306 games with Detroit (2021-25) and Chicago. He was selected by the Red Wings in the 30th position of the 2018 NHL Draft.
