BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Sabres have taken significant action following an incident involving their player development coach, Adam Mair. The team announced on Thursday that Mair has been placed on administrative leave.

The decision comes after reports emerged about the arrest of the former NHL player on charges related to driving under the influence. Reports indicate that Mair was arrested last week, and it was reported that there were minors in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The Sabres, when contacted, confirmed they were aware of the situation, but chose not to make any further comments on the matter.

According to local media reports, Mair was arrested in the suburbs of Rochester, New York, on September 4, after a rear-end collision. The 46-year-old former player faces multiple charges, including felonies and misdemeanors, including aggravated driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child.

A source from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the existence of a police report related to Mair on that date, but did not provide details about its content.

Reports indicate that a police officer perceived a strong smell of alcohol on Mair’s breath, in addition to noticing his red and glassy eyes.

After undergoing sobriety tests at the scene, Mair initially refused to take a breathalyzer test at the police station. However, she later agreed to the test, which revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.2%, exceeding the legal limit.

Adam Mair, a native of Hamilton, Ontario, had an 11-season career in the NHL, highlighting his seven-season stint with the Sabres. After retiring, Mair was hired by the Sabres as a development coach in 2015.

Mair’s suspension came just as Buffalo was preparing for a five-day prospect tournament, where other NHL teams participate. The start of the Sabres’ training camp is scheduled for next week.
