Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the New York Giants and will not travel with the team.
Worthy, who is recovering from a dislocated right shoulder suffered in the first game of the season, took a positive step on Wednesday, practicing without restrictions. He was listed as a limited participant for precaution.
Unlike last week, Worthy was seen running routes during the open portion of practice without additional padding on his right arm.
The Chiefs had been optimistic that Worthy would return for Sunday’s game using a harness.
Worthy suffered the injury after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce, who was running a crossing route in the opposite direction, on the third play of the Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Chiefs, with a 0-2 record, have struggled in part because Mahomes is playing alongside a group of underperforming receivers. Rookie Jalen Royals missed the first two games due to a right knee injury, while Rashee Rice, Mahomes’ main receiver, is serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
