Logan Wilson Requests a Trade: An Unexpected Turn in Cincinnati

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson has requested a trade, according to sources close to the situation. Wilson, who is in his sixth season, has started in all seven games played so far. However, his role on the team has diminished as the season progresses. Rookies Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr. have taken on a larger share of the minutes on the team’s defense. In the Week 6 game against the Green Bay Packers, Wilson participated in only 19.7% of the defensive plays. Four days later, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was on the field 47.5% of the time. Wilson has two years left on his four-year, $36 million contract extension, signed in 2023. This season, the Bengals are ranked 25th in yards allowed per rushing attempt. Bengals coach Zac Taylor has reiterated his commitment to rookies in the middle of the defense. Wilson, selected in the third round of the 2020 draft, has been a key piece in Cincinnati’s defense. In 2021, two years after the Bengals had the worst record in the NFL, Wilson was a starter on the team that reached the Super Bowl. In six seasons with the team, he has started 75 games and has accumulated six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 11 interceptions. Despite his diminished role, Carter has praised Wilson for helping him adjust to his new status as a starter.

Our relationship hasn’t changed at all. I still depend on him a lot for many things, I still ask him questions every day. He has been a great leader, just as he has been since the day I arrived here.
