Jameson Williams Signs Million-Dollar Extension with the Lions
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has agreed to a three-year contract extension, potentially worth up to $83 million. The news was confirmed by sources close to the situation.
The agreement was finalized less than 24 hours before the start of the season for the Lions, who will face the Green Bay Packers in their first game.
Despite positive conversations, Lions star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson is not expected to reach a contract agreement before the start of the season.
Williams, 24, is coming off a standout season in which he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards. This new contract secures his stay with the team, as he was entering the fourth year of his rookie contract, which included an option for a fifth year.
Williams is expected to take on an even more important role in the Lions’ offense, especially with the arrival of new offensive coordinator John Morton, and sharing responsibilities with All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Lions made a strategic move in the 2022 NFL draft, moving up 20 spots to select Williams as the twelfth overall pick, coming from the University of Alabama. Since then, Williams has shown a constant evolution in his game.
In the 2024 season, Williams had an outstanding year, achieving seven receiving touchdowns and adding 61 rushing yards with an additional touchdown.
With the team’s core intact, Williams anticipates a “fun” 2025 season for Detroit, highlighting his progress as a more complete receiver during the preseason.
As I was going through, I felt like I was being used in certain ways, but now, the doors are opening for coaches to use me in different ways. There are many more ways they are using me, and I focused on everything.
