Christian Wilkins is Cut by the Raiders After Locker Room Incident

Player Christian Wilkins, recently released by the Las Vegas Raiders, is at the center of controversy following an incident in the locker room, according to sources. The event, which involved a gesture with a teammate, has added a layer of complexity to his departure from the team.

Wilkins’ release was not solely due to this incident. The player has been in the process of recovering from a Jones fracture suffered last October. The management of Wilkins with the rehabilitation of his injury led the Raiders to void the remaining $35.2 million guaranteed in his contract on June 4.

Wilkins was released with the vested veteran designation, and has requested the NFLPA to file a grievance on his behalf.

The incident occurred in the Raiders’ locker room last week. A source described the interaction as “playful,” although the teammate did not perceive it in the same way. The other player’s reaction after the incident is unknown.

The Raiders’ human resources department was notified of the incident. The team, through a spokesperson, declined to comment on the situation.

Last season, Wilkins signed a four-year, $110 million contract with Las Vegas, with $84.75 million guaranteed. Previously, he had played five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he achieved his personal best with nine sacks in 2023.

Before undergoing surgery for the Jones fracture, he accumulated 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 6 quarterback hits in just five games.
