Washington D.C. se Prepara para el Draft de la NFL con Expectativas Millonarias

The District of Columbia is preparing to break attendance records by hosting the NFL draft in two years. This was predicted by Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell during a press conference at the White House.

A massive attendance is expected, with projections exceeding one million people during the three days of the event.

“I think we’ll have over a million people,” Harris said.

“We believe we will have more than a million people when we come here,” Goodell added.

President Donald Trump formally announced that the NFL will hold its 2027 draft in Washington D.C. The event will take place on the National Mall, with the Capitol as a backdrop.

If attendance exceeds one million people, a new record for the event will be set. Two years ago, Detroit drew over 750,000 people for the draft, and last month, Green Bay had over 600,000 fans, according to Goodell.

The NFL draft has been held in a different city every year since 2015 and will take place in Pittsburgh next spring.

The announcement of the 2027 draft was made in the Oval Office, with the presence of Goodell, Harris, and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser.

Recently, the city and the team announced an agreement to build a new stadium on the site of RFK Stadium, about 2 miles from the Capitol. Both parties hope the new stadium will attract major events like the Super Bowl.

For now, they celebrate the arrival of the draft in D.C.

“The draft is a celebration of one of our most cherished cultural institutions,” Trump stated. “Everyone will be watching.”

The Detroit Sports Commission estimated that the 2024 draft had an economic impact of $213.6 million on the city. Last month’s first round was watched on television and digital platforms by 13.6 million people, the second-highest figure in history, surpassed only by that of 2020.

“The draft has become one of the great sports entertainment events,” Goodell said. “We can have a tremendous impact on this community, and it won’t just be an event, it will show the world how far the nation’s capital has come and where it’s headed.”

This is the second time in a week that Goodell has participated in a major announcement for the district. Last week, he attended a press conference announcing the stadium agreement between the team and the city for nearly $4 billion, an agreement that still needs to be approved by the D.C. Council.
