In an unexpected turn in the NFL, Mike Vrabel has publicly addressed Bill Belichick’s situation with the Patriots, revealing details about the relationship between the former coach and the franchise.

Vrabel Opens the Debate

Vrabel, who played eight seasons under Belichick in New England and recently took over as coach, commented on Belichick’s welcome to the Patriots’ facilities. “As far as I know, Bill is welcome,” Vrabel stated in an interview with WEEI.

Bill returned for, as far as I know, Tom’s ceremony,” Vrabel said, referring to Belichick’s appearance at Tom Brady’s team Hall of Fame ceremony in June 2024. “So I guess he’s welcome back based on the fact that he was there.”

These statements come after Belichick confirmed he had banned Patriots scouts from the University of North Carolina, where he is currently coaching. Belichick stated that he does not feel welcome at the Patriots’ facilities, which is why he made this decision. The relationship between Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been tense since the coach left the team in January 2024. Kraft, in an attempt to improve the situation, announced that he plans to erect a statue of Belichick in the coming years. “When that great 20-year era ended, it was always my intention to commission a statue for both Tommy and Bill when their respective careers ended, playing and coaching,” said Kraft. Vrabel’s comments came a day after the Patriots lost to the Raiders in their first game of the season. It was Vrabel’s debut as Patriots coach, who was hired to replace Mayo earlier this year.
