Stefon Diggs Absent from Patriots Voluntary Practices
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs did not show up for organized team activity (OTA) on Wednesday. This absence comes a day after a video of the player was made public on social media.
In the video, Diggs appears in a boat, surrounded by three women, and shows an unidentified pink substance.
“We are aware of the situation and obviously want good decisions to be made on and off the field,” stated coach Mike Vrabel.
Mike Vrabel, Patriots Coach
Vrabel also confirmed that he has been in communication with Diggs, as he does with all the team’s players.
The Patriots signed 31-year-old Diggs to a three-year, $69 million contract in March. The player is in the process of rehabilitating an ACL tear suffered in Week 8 of last season with the Houston Texans. Diggs was present at at least one of the Patriots’ voluntary practices the previous week.
Vrabel mentioned that they are working hard to get Diggs ready to play, and that they will coach him when he is back. The Patriots are counting on Diggs to improve a receiving corps that finished last in the NFL in receiving yards (1,723) in 2024. In addition, the Patriots’ receivers finished 28th in receptions (161), tied for 28th in receiving touchdowns (10), and tied for last in first downs (78).Diggs is expected to lead a receiving corps that also includes Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, and Kyle Williams.
An intense competition is anticipated for the remaining positions among Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker, among others.Diggs’ streak of six consecutive seasons with over 1,000 yards ended last season due to his ACL injury. Until that point, Diggs was seventh in the NFL in receptions (47) and second in receiving yards (496) with the Texans.
The Patriots haven’t had a receiver with 1,000 yards since Julian Edelman in 2019.
