Vikings Secure Desmond Ridder as Third Quarterback
The Minnesota Vikings have reached an agreement with free agent quarterback Desmond Ridder, thus reinforcing their quarterback position with a third available option. This decision comes after the injury of J.J. McCarthy, who will miss several weeks due to a high right ankle sprain.
According to reports, McCarthy will be out of action for two to four weeks due to the injury suffered during Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, where the Vikings fell with a score of 22-6.
Carson Wentz will be the Vikings’ starter in the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Ridder joins Max Brosmer as backup options for Wentz.
Until Tuesday, the Vikings hadn’t placed McCarthy on the injured reserve list.
Ridder, who was previously in training camp with the Bengals, was released last month. The Bengals replaced Ridder with Brett Rypien, whom the Vikings had previously released.
Rypien will be the backup to Jake Browning, the Bengals’ starter, who is replacing the injured Joe Burrow.
Desmond Ridder, 26, started 17 games with the Atlanta Falcons during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and played one game with the Raiders last year.
