The Minnesota Vikings have announced the contract renewal of General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, thus consolidating their leadership for the near future.
The announcement comes just months after coach Kevin O’Connell signed a new deal, ensuring continuity in the team’s leadership.
Both signed four-year contracts when joining the Vikings in 2022. Although O’Connell’s new contract is for five years, the duration of Adofo-Mensah’s agreement has not been specified.
The news also includes new appointments for two of Adofo-Mensah’s top assistants, Ryan Grigson and Demitrius Washington, who are now assistant general managers.
Kwesi’s leadership, vision, and collaboration with the coaching staff have positioned the Minnesota Vikings for sustained success. His dedication and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in shaping our roster and future, and we are confident that, under his guidance and that of Kevin O’Connell, we will continue to compete at the highest level as we pursue a championship for Vikings fans.
Mark Wilf, Team Owner/President
Since the arrival of Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell, the Vikings have shown a solid performance, with a regular winning percentage of .667 and two playoff appearances.
However, Adofo-Mensah’s drafts have been less productive, leading the team to compensate with significant signings in free agency and the trade market.
In 2024, Adofo-Mensah secured a standout free agency class, including three Pro Bowl players, among them Sam Darnold, Jonathan Greenard, and Andrew Van Ginkel. This year, the team has invested heavily in building the roster for 2025, with a cash commitment of $315 million, the highest figure in the NFL.
Adofo-Mensah, 43, was hired in January 2022 after a successful career in the NFL. Before his career in American football, he held financial roles on Wall Street. His transition to sports came in 2013, after a visit to the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, which inspired him to join the research and development department of the San Francisco 49ers.Subsequently, he was hired by the Cleveland Browns as vice president of football operations in 2020.
Adofo-Mensah was the first NFL general manager hired primarily for his experience in data analytics, which has influenced the quantitative approach to decision-making in the Vikings’ front office.
