Tua Tagovailoa Wants to Participate in the Preseason
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressed his desire to play in the preseason, despite the joint practices scheduled for the summer. Tagovailoa stated that he would love to have more playing time in the three preseason games. Although starting quarterbacks usually play little in this stage, Tagovailoa considers the minutes on the field valuable to refine the connection with his teammates before the start of the regular season.Under coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa’s preseason minutes have decreased in each of the last three seasons. In 2022, he attempted 15 passes; in 2023, 13; and in 2024, only 5. The Dolphins have four joint practices scheduled with the Chicago Bears, two with the Detroit Lions, and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tagovailoa hasn’t played a live game since December 22, missing the last two games of the season due to a hip injury. Most of Miami’s offensive core remains intact, with the exception of tight end Jonnu Smith, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and left tackle Terron Armstead, who retired in April.I would definitely love to have some preseason plays. Definitely. It’s a new season, it’s a new year. You have to fine-tune things with the guys again, all that. I don’t think I’m better than anyone on this team, nor do I think I’m too good to have plays in preseason games. No, I don’t mind at all. I would love that.
