NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Titans have decided to release veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett, according to a source close to the situation.

Lockett, 33, requested his release and it was granted on Monday. The player is expected to be free to sign with another team after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

In April, Lockett signed a one-year contract with the Titans worth up to $6 million. The franchise hoped Lockett would bring his experience to the receiving corps and help young quarterback Cam Ward adapt to the NFL.

In seven games, Lockett had 10 receptions for 70 yards, playing 181 offensive snaps (44.7%).

The Titans currently have a record of 1-6 and last week fired coach Brian Callahan.

Lockett spent the first 10 years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, where he became the second-most productive receiver in franchise history. The Seahawks released him in March.
