Texans Defense Shows Dominance Against Bills
In a matchup that promised strong emotions, the Houston Texans, with their defense ranked number one, defeated the Buffalo Bills 23-19 in an exciting game. The encounter was a battle between one of the most outstanding offenses and the league’s strongest defense. The Bills, led by the reigning MVP, quarterback Josh Allen, came into the game averaging 29.2 points per game. The Texans’ defense proved its worth by stopping the Bills’ offense. They managed to sack Allen eight times, a personal record for the Buffalo quarterback. In addition, safety Calen Bullock forced three turnovers, including two interceptions and a fumble, with a decisive interception at the end of the game. The Texans’ total number of sacks tied a franchise record in a single game. Houston pressured Allen on 15 of his 45 pass attempts (33%), allowing only two completed passes and one first down on those plays. Bullock had the first performance of his career with multiple interceptions. His final interception, in a fourth-and-six situation with 24 seconds remaining, sealed the victory. Coach DeMeco Ryans highlighted the excitement on the bench after the Bills’ improbable conversion, and expressed his relief and joy for Bullock’s interception, awarding him the game ball in recognition of his outstanding performance. Calen came out and intercepted the ball twice, forcing a fumble to put us in favorable territory. There were a lot of emotions on the bench throughout that series, but Calen getting that interception was my favorite play, because it meant the game was over. DeMeco Ryans, Texans coach Although his first interception was nullified by a penalty, Bullock became the first player to achieve two interceptions and a fumble recovery in a regular season game since Brian Branch of the Detroit Lions in Week 6 of 2024.Bullock’s two interceptions positioned him as the third player with the most interceptions in the NFL (nine) since 2024. The Texans’ defensive line, led by Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, was also key, with five pressures each and 4.5 combined sacks. We definitely have the best defense in the league. You just have to prove it on the field every day.

With a 6-5 record, the Texans have a 35% chance of making the playoffs and a 7% chance of winning the AFC South. The team’s defense gives them the opportunity to compete every week. The credit goes, first of all, to our defensive line. Because of the way they come out, the way those guys relentlessly pressure the passer and everyone in the back is playing well and playing together. When we do that, it’s difficult to move the ball against us. So, our players are doing an exceptional job.
DeMeco Ryans, Texans coach
“We have that mentality, that we are the best every time we go out on the field.”
After their mini-break, the Texans will face the Indianapolis Colts (8-2), leaders of the AFC South, in Week 13. The outcome of this match could have significant implications in their attempt to secure a division spot after a difficult start to the season.
