Teddy Bridgewater Suspended for Player Benefits
Former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has been suspended from his position as football coach at Miami Northwestern High School due to alleged irregularities in the provision of benefits to his players. Bridgewater, 32, confirmed his suspension via a Facebook post on Sunday, although he also affirmed his commitment to his alma mater.Bridgewater led Miami Northwestern to the Class 3A state championship in his first season as coach, in 2024. In December, he returned to the NFL as Jared Goff’s backup with the Detroit Lions, but did not participate in any regular season games. In the playoffs, he completed his only pass attempt for 3 yards in the 45-31 loss against the Washington Commanders in the divisional round. At the beginning of this month, Bridgewater revealed on Facebook that he had paid for Uber rides, meals, and recovery services for his players last season. He requested donations from fans to cover those expenses this year.In the post where he confirmed his suspension, Bridgewater indicated that he “self-reported” the payments to Miami Northwestern. The Florida High School Athletic Association confirmed that it is gathering more information about the case. Bridgewater played for six NFL teams from 2014 to 2024, with a record of 33-32, 15,120 passing yards and 75 touchdowns. He was selected for the Pro Bowl after an 11-5 season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2015.“The suspension came from MNW and it’s impossible to suspend someone who doesn’t work for you.
