Key Injuries for the Steelers in the Matchup Against the Bills

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to face the Buffalo Bills this Sunday, but they will do so with significant absences in their starting lineup. The team will not have left tackle Broderick Jones or defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. Coach Mike Tomlin announced the injuries in his weekly press conference. Jones suffered a neck injury, initially diagnosed as a “stinger”, during the game against the Bears. For his part, Harmon is dealing with a knee injury, also suffered in the same match. The Jones injury occurred in the last quarter of the game. While trying to protect quarterback Mason Rudolph, Jones collided with defensive player Dominique Robinson. On the play, Jones fell unfortunately and had to leave the field. Calvin Anderson replaced Jones in the game and, according to Tomlin, both Anderson and Andrus Peat, a versatile player, will take on responsibilities as the starting left tackle.

“We have a player with a resume who was a starter from start to finish and who came to this league as a first-round pick, so he certainly has a different profile than Calvin. We like both players. Both are veteran professionals who have a certain level of preparation and maturity that they bring to work every day. And so, we’re going to prepare both players, and we’ll have more clarity as we get closer to game time,” Tomlin said about Peat.

Harmon, who was also injured on Sunday, finished the game. The injury occurred on Monday and is not related to the medial collateral ligament sprain he suffered in the preseason. Tomlin did not confirm whether the current injury is in the same knee. In the absence of Harmon, Yahya Black, who had a forced fumble and a recovery against the Bears, will have more opportunities.

“I am very encouraged by his growth, and I think his playing time is a reflection of that. We like our young defensive linemen and we’ve acquired a new one in Broderic [Martin-Rhodes], so sometimes players will get an opportunity. One man’s misfortune is another man’s opportunity, so we feel encouraged by the depth we have at the position,” Tomlin added about Black.

Despite the losses, Tomlin was optimistic about the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who missed Sunday’s game due to a fracture in his left wrist. Rodgers did not participate in the game against the Bears, but his condition is expected to improve. His participation will be limited at the beginning of the week to preserve his health. In addition to Rodgers, the team is awaiting news on the participation of Alex Highsmith, Joey Porter Jr., DK Metcalf, and Ben Skowornek, who will be limited in practice at the start of the week.
