Steelers Cut Cordarrelle Patterson

The Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to dispense with the services of the outstanding returner Cordarrelle Patterson, as announced by the player himself through his social media on Monday. Patterson, who has been selected to the All-Pro team four times, shared the news with a sarcastic tone in his post.
This decision allows the Steelers to save $2.8 million in salary cap space. The team had hired the veteran last season, following a modification in the kickoff rules, seeking to add dynamism to the game. However, Patterson only accumulated 240 yards on 11 kickoff returns in his only season with the team. This figure represents his second-lowest total in a season, after recording 153 yards on seven returns in 2023. Patterson, affected by an ankle injury mid-season, participated in 13 games last season, running for 135 yards on 32 attempts. He also managed 12 receptions on 14 attempts, adding 80 yards and a touchdown. The player did not participate in the team’s preseason activities and was also absent from the first four training sessions of this season’s training camp.
