Steelers Lose Broderick Jones to Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed starting left tackle, Broderick Jones, on the injured reserve list, after suffering a neck injury during the game against the Bears last week. Jones will be out for at least the next four games, ruling him out until Week 17. Andrus Peat, former first-round draft pick, will take over from Jones, protecting the quarterback’s blind side. Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that Peat, selected by the New Orleans Saints in 2015, will be the starter for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Calvin Anderson, backup tackle, was also considered for the left tackle position. Peat, who has primarily played guard since joining the Steelers, made 12 starts at left tackle for the Saints in 2023. On Sunday, he will be protecting a quarterback almost 42 years old who is recovering from a fracture in his left wrist.

I’m always ready to play or start. I’ve been a starter for most of my career, so I always try to prepare myself that way and stay in that mindset.

The Steelers also announced the promotion of cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. from the practice squad for Sunday’s game, which could mean his season debut. Samuel provides the Steelers with greater depth at a position that has suffered recent injuries to starters Joey Porter Jr. (hip) and Darius Slay (concussion). Samuel, ranked as the number 14 free agent in the offseason, signed with the Steelers’ practice squad on November 11, following off-season spinal fusion surgery.

I feel great. It’s the healthiest I’ve been, I’ve been dealing with that, and I fixed it, so now I feel good.
