Stafford ready for the season start despite injury

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford said he will not focus on the aggravated disc injury in his back during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. The experienced player, who is preparing for his 17th season in the NFL, missed almost a month of training due to this injury. Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed that Stafford will participate in the full week of practices prior to the start of the season.

“I’m going to play the game. Whatever happens, I’ll play as always. I have no problem with the physical game. Obviously, I’d like to stay as clean as possible, but I’m not thinking about that at all. I’m ready to play,” Stafford said.

Stafford injured his back during training between the offseason program and training camp. Last month, the player did not want to give details about the injury, but mentioned that it was not an isolated incident, but rather something that “gradually emerged”.

“Backs are sometimes interesting things. It’s not so simple to know what’s what and how you’re going to feel,” Stafford commented.

Since his return on August 18, Stafford has practiced without restrictions. On Wednesday, Stafford expressed feeling “good” at training camp and being “ready to play” in the opening game. At the start of the 2025 season, Stafford is only 191 yards away from reaching 60,000 career passing yards, which would make him one of nine quarterbacks in NFL history to achieve this mark.
