Matthew Stafford Practices Fully in Training After Injury
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a full participant in practice this week, marking his return from a back injury, according to head coach Sean McVay. Stafford rejoined practice on Monday, after aggravating a back disc injury during the preseason. The player, who spoke about the injury for the first time on Thursday, explained that the problem “arose gradually”.Stafford declined to elaborate on the injury or confirm whether he will be ready for the Rams’ season opener against the Houston Texans on September 7, but noted that he is focusing on a “day-to-day approach” to manage the injury. The quarterback participated in full practices on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and led the first-team plays during Wednesday’s training. McVay commented that, based on what he has observed, “there are no restrictions and he is playing at a very high level”.Backs are sometimes interesting things. It’s not easy to determine what’s what and how you’ll feel, so I really appreciate our team, our head coach, and everyone for taking a daily approach with me, doing everything they can to help me.

When asked if he still feels back pain, Stafford replied: “It’s been 17 years in the NFL. There’s pain everywhere every time I wake up. But no, it’s something I’m going to manage, as I do with a million other things throughout the year.” Stafford stated that “he definitely felt much more like himself today” compared to his first practice on Monday. Stafford will not travel to Cleveland for the Rams’ final preseason game against the Browns.I’ve seen a guy who has been improving more and more. He looks like the star player we know. I think the first day he was feeling comfortable, just testing the waters a bit. And then, I think in the last few days he has played very fast. He has activated all areas of the field, as I mentioned to you the other day.
