Shedeur Sanders: From Victory to Challenge, the Browns’ Quarterback Seeks to Excel

Shedeur Sanders, the young quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, achieved a remarkable feat by winning his first game as a starter in the NFL, marking a milestone for the franchise after three decades. However, instead of settling for the initial success, Sanders has made it clear that he doesn’t feel “comfortable” and is focused on continuing to improve. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will continue as the starter for the upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers, despite Dillon Gabriel having passed the concussion protocol. This decision reflects the confidence in Sanders, who led the team to a resounding victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. In his debut, Sanders completed 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards, including a touchdown and an interception. Despite these numbers, Sanders maintains a humble and ambitious attitude. “I am not comfortable, and that’s the most important thing, to have another opportunity,” Sanders stated on Wednesday. “In life, you have to understand how quickly things come, or how long they take, and that they can be taken away from you at any moment.”

“I always want to exceed expectations and grow every week, I want to be a better version of myself for the team,” Sanders added.

Sanders, selected at the 144th pick of this year’s draft, began his NFL career as the fourth quarterback on the Browns’ roster. The situation changed after the trade of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, which opened the door for Sanders to start for the first time due to Gabriel’s concussion. Sanders also highlighted the importance of strengthening the connection with the starting offense, with which he practiced for the first time last week. “Day by day, minute by minute, meeting after meeting, I feel more comfortable in this role,” he stated. “They also feel more comfortable with me, and I am grateful for that.” His teammates have praised Sanders’ impact, and Stefanski has highlighted his composure. “He’s always done a good job,” Stefanski said. “What we appreciate about all of our players is authenticity. He’s the same guy every day. Obviously, on game day there’s energy and excitement, but he’s played in that position for a long time.” With another week of practice as the starting quarterback, Sanders maintained a simple stance when asked about his expectations for his second game. “I’ll do my job,” he concluded.
