Shedeur Sanders Aims to Establish Himself as a Starter for the Browns

Shedeur Sanders, quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, achieved a victory in his debut as a starter, marking a milestone for the franchise after three decades. Despite this achievement, the young player has expressed his desire to continue improving and not become complacent. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that Sanders will continue as the starting quarterback, even after Dillon Gabriel was cleared from concussion protocol. This decision comes after Sanders’ outstanding performance in the 24-10 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, where he completed 11 of 20 passes, accumulating 209 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

I’m definitely not comfortable, so that’s the first and foremost thing I have another opportunity to get out. But in life, you have to understand how quickly things come or how long they take to come, they can be taken at any moment.

Sanders, selected at the 144th pick of this year’s draft, began his NFL career as the fourth quarterback on the Browns’ roster. The departure of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett opened the door for Sanders to debut as a starter due to Gabriel’s concussion. The quarterback highlighted the growing connection with the starting offense, with which he practiced for the first time last week. “Day by day, minute by minute, meeting after meeting, of course,” Sanders commented. “I feel a little more comfortable and at ease being in that role, being in that position. They also feel more comfortable with me. So I’m excited, I’m happy, and I’m grateful.” His teammates have highlighted Sanders’ positive impact on the team. Stefanski praised the player’s composure. “He’s always done a good job with that,” Stefanski said. “What we appreciate about all of our players is authenticity. He’s the same guy every day. Obviously, on game day there’s energy. There’s excitement, but he’s played that position for a long time. He knows how to make sure he maintains the main thing.”

After the victory, Sanders joked in his post-game interview about how “dangerous” he might be after an off-season full of repetitions. With another week of practice as the starting quarterback, Sanders kept things simple when asked on Wednesday about the expectations in his second start. “I’ll say do my job,” he stated.
