Seahawks Lose Tory Horton to Injury

The Seattle Seahawks will be without one of their top touchdown scorers and primary kick returner for at least the next four games. Rookie receiver Tory Horton was placed on the injured reserve list this Saturday. Horton, who has six touchdowns this season, missed the Seahawks’ last two games due to a shin injury and had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

It’s one of those situations that we have to manage day by day, week by week and deal with it as best as possible. I know he’s working hard. He’s doing everything he can to recover. It’s just one of those things that need to calm down.

Mike Macdonald, Coach
Selected in the fifth round of the draft from Colorado State, Horton has achieved 13 receptions for 161 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, he scored on a 95-yard kickoff return, the longest in team history. Horton fell to the fifth round after his final college season was cut short by a serious leg injury. He also missed time during the summer due to a sprained ankle, but still beat out veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to become Seattle’s third receiver. Rashid Shaheed, acquired via a trade with the New Orleans Saints earlier this month, has taken on that role, in addition to replacing Horton as Seattle’s kick returner. The Seahawks also promoted linebackers Patrick O’Connell and Jamie Sheriff from their practice squad to play Sunday against Tennessee. Seattle could be short-handed at the linebacker position, with starter Ernest Jones IV (knee) listed as questionable and Tyrice Knight (concussion) ruled out. The Seahawks indicate that running back Ken Walker III (glute) is questionable, but coach Macdonald said Friday that he should be able to play. Left guard Grey Zabel (knee) and fullback Robbie Ouzts (not injury related) are also questionable.
