Seahawks Lose Tory Horton to Injury
The Seattle Seahawks will be without one of their top touchdown scorers and kick returner for the next four games, after rookie receiver Tory Horton was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. Horton, who has scored six touchdowns this season, missed the Seahawks’ last two games due to a shin injury and had already been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.Horton, selected in the fifth round of the draft from Colorado State, has caught 13 passes for 161 yards and five touchdowns. In addition, he scored on a 95-yard kickoff return, the longest in team history. His fall to the fifth round came after his final college season was cut short by a serious leg injury. He also missed time during the summer due to a sprained ankle, but still beat out veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to be Seattle’s third receiver. Rashid Shaheed, acquired via a trade with the New Orleans Saints earlier this month, has taken on that role, in addition to replacing Horton as Seattle’s kick returner. The Seahawks also promoted linebackers Patrick O’Connell and Jamie Sheriff from their practice squad on Saturday to play on Sunday against Tennessee. Seattle could be short-handed at the linebacker position, with starter Ernest Jones IV (knee) questionable and Tyrice Knight (concussion) ruled out. The Seahawks have running back Ken Walker III (glute) as questionable, but coach Macdonald said Friday that he should be able to play. Left guard Grey Zabel (knee) and fullback Robbie Ouzts (not injury-related) are also questionable. It’s one of those situations where we have to handle it day by day, week by week and treat it as best as possible. I know he’s working very hard. He’s doing everything he can to come back. It’s just one of those things that have to calm down.
