FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer is scheduled to meet with Micah Parsons on Sunday to discuss the defensive lineman’s behavior during Friday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. During the start of the third quarter, Parsons lay down on a medical stretcher behind the Cowboys’ bench while the offense advanced down the field. In addition, he was the only player who did not wear a uniform during the game. Schottenheimer stated that, if a decision needs to be made, the team will handle it internally.

Without talking to Micah, I need to find out what he was doing and why he was doing it. So until I talk to him, I’m obviously not going to talk about it.

Parsons underwent an MRI on his back on Friday, which, according to Schottenheimer, came out “pretty clean.” Parsons first mentioned a back strain at the June minicamp. However, during training camp, owner and general manager Jerry Jones seemed to downplay the severity of the problem, calling it part of the negotiation for an extension. Schottenheimer has expressed confidence that Parsons will be available for the September 4th season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, but the team will take into account all issues related to his status when compiling its 53-player roster.

I think (defense) is an area where we are quite deep.

Schottenheimer expects cornerback Trevon Diggs to be activated from the physically unable to perform list and be on the 53-man roster at the start of the season. If Diggs, who is recovering from left knee surgery in January, were to start the year on the PUP list, he would be forced to miss the first two games.

These things don’t happen if you’re not dedicating time and effort to doing what you’ve been doing. Really proud of him.

Diggs didn’t rule out the possibility of playing in Week 1 against the Eagles, but said the decision to return to play will be mutual. Schottenheimer mentioned a possible “pitch count” if Diggs were available.

Whenever you have players who have missed some time, there’s a period of getting up to speed, a period of accumulation. We have some time (to) see how their physical condition is, see how they move as we start practicing, hopefully this week.

Left tackle Tyler Guyton could also participate in some practices this week. He suffered a knee fracture on July 28 in a training session and was given a recovery period of 4 to 6 weeks.

We’ll find out a little more (on Sunday). It will be a bit like with Trevon, in the right direction. Hopefully, we’ll have him do something on the field as early as this week.
