Shedeur Sanders Ready for Preseason Game Against the Browns

The young Cleveland Browns quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, is scheduled to participate in the last preseason home game against the Los Angeles Rams. Browns coach Kevin Stefanski also confirmed that undrafted rookie wide receiver Isaiah Bond will play Saturday after practicing this week. Stefanski stated on Thursday that, unless a setback occurs, Sanders will be on the field. Cleveland is expected to use its starters, including the newly appointed starting quarterback, Joe Flacco, for a period of between 20 and 25 plays. Dillon Gabriel will act as a substitute, while Sanders will play in third place. Kenny Pickett, who returned to practice on Wednesday, will not play on Saturday due to a hamstring injury. Sanders did not participate in the joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles nor in the second preseason game due to an oblique strain. However, he returned to team practices on Wednesday and practiced again on Thursday.

Everything is fine.

Meanwhile, Sanders downplayed the controversy surrounding Gabriel’s comments during an interview last week’s game, stating that Gabriel approached him to clarify that the quote was not directed at him. When Gabriel was asked during the broadcast about “ignoring the noise” surrounding the competition for the Browns’ quarterback position, Gabriel replied: “Yes, it’s part of this. You know, there are performers and there are competitors, and I totally get it. But my job is to compete. And that’s what I’m focused on.” Gabriel’s comment about the “artists” was interpreted by many on social media as a reference to Sanders, who, despite being selected in the fifth round, two rounds after Gabriel, has received more attention. Sanders’ fall in the draft and his famous father, Colorado’s coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, Deion Sanders, have made him one of the NFL rookies with the highest profile this season. Gabriel explained after the game that the reference to the “artists” referred to the media. When asked about the comments, Sanders said: “Honestly, I don’t even think about anything. I don’t think about anything. If they’re not words or anything at this moment, they can’t do anything to me. I know that God put the ability and power in me to not even think about anyone else’s comments, not to worry. It is what it is. I spoke with him. He told me on the plane. He came up and said, ‘No, brother, that wasn’t for you.’ … I’m not worried, regardless of what it was. No one’s words or anything affect me.” When asked if he believed Gabriel, Sanders replied: “Do I feel like he did? I don’t know. And it’s not for me to sit here and say, ‘Oh, yes; no.’ That’s not going to change my life in any way.”
