The New Orleans Saints have finalized the addition of running back Cam Akers with a one-year contract, following his participation in this week’s minicamp. Akers had two training sessions with the team during the mandatory minicamp, joining Alvin Kamara, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kendre Miller, and Devin Neal, the sixth-round pick. Akers, who will turn 26 in June, was selected in the second round of the 2020 draft by the Los Angeles Rams. He spent his first three seasons in Los Angeles before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 2023. Last season, Akers signed with the Houston Texans and had a second stint with the Vikings after being traded to Minnesota mid-season last fall.

Cam is an experienced player. He has achieved a lot in this league. You’re always trying to evaluate as many players as possible. We felt it was a great opportunity and we’re excited that he wanted to come.

Kellen Moore, Saints coach
In his five seasons in the NFL, Akers has 502 rushing attempts for 2,025 yards and 13 touchdowns. In addition, he has achieved 52 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns. In his rookie season, he ran for 625 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 131 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Rams’ victory against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC wild card round that same year. Before the 2021 season, Akers suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and was expected to miss the entire campaign, but he returned in time to participate in the Rams’ four playoff victories, including their 23-20 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
