Aaron Rodgers: A Retirement with the Packers is the Quarterback’s Wish

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, currently with the Pittsburgh Steelers, has expressed his desire to retire as a Green Bay Packers player. Rodgers, who has stated that this season could be the last, spoke about his retirement plans before Sunday’s game against his former team.

“I was there for 18 years,” Rodgers said, referring to his time in Green Bay. “Regardless of when I hang up my boots, that’s the majority of my career. I’ll retire as a Packer and see what happens after. I feel a lot of love for the organization and for my time there. What do I have to avenge here? They made me earn a lot of money. I grew up there, I spent some of the best years of my life there. I have nothing but love for the organization.”

Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023 and, after two seasons, signed with the Steelers in the offseason. Sunday’s game represents Rodgers’ first encounter against his former team. During a conference call with the journalists covering the Packers, Rodgers spoke fondly of his former team, showing no resentment for not having finished his career with them.

“It was a very close group for a long time,” Rodgers said. “I outlasted most of them, but it’s fun, that’s why I feel so good about my time there, because almost everything good in my life is thanks to my football career, and my football career starts and will one day end with Green Bay. I have a lot of love for those memories and many great friends that I still have today.”

Rodgers also mentioned that it would be “great” to play against his former teams, both the Jets and the Packers, this season, but that the game would have more meaning if it were played at Lambeau Field.
