Aaron Rodgers Fully Participates in Steelers Training

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers fully participated in practice for the first time since fracturing his left wrist on November 16. After missing his second consecutive Wednesday practice, the 41-year-old player was on the field for a frigid Thanksgiving practice, performing his normal workload with his wrist in a black stabilizer as snow squalls fell on the Steelers’ facilities.

I’ll see how I feel after Thursday. I’m going on Thursday and they’re going to put a cast on and then I’ll see how I respond.

Wide receiver DK Metcalf, who injured his ankle in the loss against the Chicago Bears, also returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday, along with defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (ankle) and outside linebacker Alex Highsmith (pectoral). The coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that he was starting the week with “great optimism” regarding the availability of his quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, and Rodgers echoed that sentiment on Wednesday.

I couldn’t play last week, so I hope for a different result this week.

Rodgers said the biggest difference for his wrist between not playing against the Bears on November 23 and potentially playing against the Bills a week later is “time for healing”.

I’ve had more days for the callus to form and more healing, especially on Monday and Tuesday just doing rehabilitation. On Wednesday I did a little more. On Thursday I’ll do a little more and see where I am on Friday.

When asked if he understood that he needed a doctor’s authorization to play on Sunday, Rodgers said he didn’t think that was the case. “No,” he said, “I’ve never understood that.”
