OXNARD, Calif. – Dallas Cowboys guard Rob Jones suffered a neck fracture during Sunday’s practice, which will keep him out of action for two to three months, according to sources close to the team. Jones, who signed a one-year, $3.75 million contract with the Cowboys in March as a free agent, was injured at the end of practice. Despite this, he spent time after practice working with Tyler Booker, the team’s first pick, to improve his game. After the practice, he underwent an examination and additional tests, including an MRI, which revealed the injury. Fortunately, he will not require surgery. Before joining the Cowboys, Jones played with the Miami Dolphins, where he started in 30 of 49 games in four years. His contract with the Cowboys guaranteed him 3 million dollars. Booker has been taking the majority of the snaps with the starters at the left guard position, but Jones was with the starters on Saturday.

Rob Jones has been doing really good things.

Brian Schottenheimer, coach
Coach Brian Schottenheimer commented before Sunday’s practice that Booker is at a point where he needs to improve his performance. Although Booker has shown good things, he has also had moments below standard. Schottenheimer explained that a change was made, but it is not clear if it will be permanent. He expects Booker to play with the starters again.
