Anthony Richardson Could Return to Practice on Saturday

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson could return to practice this Saturday after dislocating the pinky finger on his right hand during Thursday night’s preseason game.

Richardson was brought down by Ravens linebacker David Ojabo in the first quarter, which caused his pinky finger to bend outwards. The team’s medical staff quickly reset the joint and Richardson attempted to catch a football, hoping to return to the game. He also began throwing light passes from the sideline.

However, coach Shane Steichen decided to rule him out of the game, giving way to Daniel Jones, who played the first half, and Riley Leonard, who played the second.

Richardson underwent X-rays at halftime, which were negative.

Colts players have a day off scheduled for Friday, but return to the training camp in Westfield, Indiana, on Saturday for the next practice. If Richardson can throw the ball effectively, he is likely to be on the field.

After the match, Richardson stated that the finger was “sore”, adding that “it will be a little more so in the morning. But I’ll be fine.”

It’s unclear how the Colts will handle the quarterback situation going forward. They’ve split the starting reps almost evenly between Richardson and Jones, and Steichen planned to give Richardson considerable playing time in the first preseason game, with Jones scheduled to play more the following week. But after Jones came off the bench to play the final 23 minutes of the first half, that plan changed.

Richardson completed 2 of 3 passes before his injury. Jones came in and completed 10 of 21 passes for 144 yards.
