The relationship between the Rams and Hawaii has a long history, with several community members recalling the children’s camps held by players in the 1970s. Recently, the Rams began broadcasting preseason games in the Hawaiian Islands in 2018 and played a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu in 2019. After the Maui wildfires in August 2023, the Rams dedicated a preseason game to raise funds for the American Red Cross’s relief efforts for those in need. The commitment to hold the camp in Maui was only for this year, but quarterback Matthew Stafford expressed his desire for it to continue. During Tuesday’s practice, the offensive players participated in a flag football camp for girls, while the defense organized an American football clinic for boys. Davante Adams was involved in route work with the flag football players.

I feel like it’s almost for me because I’m having a good time and connecting with the kids.

At the same time, Rams rookies joined Habitat for Humanity Maui in rebuilding four homes in an area affected by the wildfires. Kevin Demoff, president of the Rams team, highlighted the enthusiasm and warm welcome from the community, mentioning the joy and confidence that the team has brought to the children and the entire community. Adams praised the camaraderie within the organization, highlighting how easily he integrated compared to his experience on another team. The Rams hope that bond will strengthen in Maui, with activities like time at sea, karaoke videos, and hula dancing at the luau. The presence of Nacua, a Polynesian star, has been key to strengthening the Rams’ relationship with Hawaii. The fans’ enthusiasm for Nacua was evident when he ran across the field, greeting fans and showing his connection with the community. Nacua mentioned players like Marcus Mariota, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Troy Polamalu as his idols. Stafford called the opportunity to practice in Maui “a unique opportunity”, hoping to inspire young people. Demoff highlighted Nacua’s impact on the community, mentioning the long lines for his autograph signings and his interaction with children, demonstrating that they can become the next Puka Nacua.
