49ers Bolster Jauan Jennings’ Contract with Incentives
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers have made adjustments to wide receiver Jauan Jennings’ contract, increasing his earning potential for the 2025 season. The news comes after Jennings’ return to training, marking an important step for the team. Jennings’ agents, Drew and Jason Rosenhaus, reported that it was agreed to add $3 million in playing time-based incentives to the player’s current contract. This agreement could lead Jennings to earn up to $10.5 million in the current season. Jennings, who is in the final year of his two-year contract signed last season, will become an unrestricted free agent after this campaign. Negotiations for a long-term extension did not come to fruition.49ers coach Kyle Shanahan expressed his desire to keep Jennings on the team for 2025 and beyond. During the preseason, Jennings also faced a calf injury, which kept him out of practice for a while. Shanahan confirmed that Jennings is fit to play in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Jennings’ return has been well received by the team, highlighting his energy and skill on the field. 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed that Jennings had requested a trade, but that both parties have moved past that situation. The team had no interest in trading Jennings and expected his participation once he recovered from his injury. In the past, the 49ers have handled similar situations with other players who requested trades, such as Raheem Mostert, Deebo Samuel, and Robbie Gould, by adjusting their contracts or signing extensions. Jennings is coming off his best professional season, where he recorded 77 receptions, 975 yards, and six touchdowns. In addition, he is valued by the team as an elite blocker at his position. Defensive end Nick Bosa expressed his satisfaction with Jennings’ return, highlighting his impact on the team. In addition to Jennings’ situation, the 49ers have also made moves in their receiver roster. The team signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling and re-signed Russell Gage Jr. to the practice squad. Shanahan indicated that both players will be available for the game against the Seahawks, along with Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, and Skyy Moore. There’s a business side, but I think both sides would be happy if it got resolved. I just don’t know if we can.
