Christian Wilkins, Released by the Raiders, Involved in a Locker Room Incident
Christian Wilkins, recently released by the Las Vegas Raiders, was involved in an incident that generated controversy within the team, according to sources close to the matter.
The player kissed a teammate on the head, an action that was considered offensive by the recipient, a source detailed to this media outlet.
This incident, however, was not the only reason behind his departure from the team. Wilkins was in the process of recovering from a Jones fracture suffered in his left foot last October.
Due to Wilkins’ management of his injury rehabilitation, the Raiders voided the remaining guaranteed $35.2 million of his contract on June 4.
Wilkins was released with the vested veteran designation rescinded. Faced with this, he requested that the NFL Players Association file a complaint on his behalf, which was done on Thursday.
The incident occurred in a team meeting room last week. A source described the interaction as “playful,” but the colleague did not perceive it the same way. The colleague’s actions after the incident are unknown.
A complaint was filed with the Raiders’ human resources department, which investigated the matter, according to the source.
The Raiders, through a team spokesperson, declined to comment.
In the previous offseason, Wilkins signed a four-year, $110 million contract with Las Vegas, which included $84.75 million guaranteed. Previously, he had played five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, where he achieved nine sacks, his personal best, in 2023.
In 2024, before undergoing surgery for the Jones fracture that ended his season, he accumulated 17 tackles, 2 sacks, and 6 quarterback hits in just five games.
