Frank Ragnow will not play with the Lions after failing physical exam
Four-time Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow will not be able to play this season with the Detroit Lions, the team announced after he failed his physical. Ragnow, who was planning to return from retirement, did not meet the medical requirements after showing up on Friday at the facilities for the usual protocols. The Detroit medical team revealed that Ragnow is suffering from a grade 3 hamstring strain, which prevents him from playing.Ragnow, 29, announced his retirement in June after seven seasons in the NFL, during which he battled multiple injuries. The Lions still hold Ragnow’s contractual rights for two more seasons, this one and the next. Head coach Dan Campbell was initially “excited” at the prospect of his return. “He wants to play, he wants to be a part of this, he misses the game, he misses his teammates. We are very excited,” Campbell said after Thursday’s 31-24 loss to Green Bay. “He’s a great football player, he brings a lot of production to the offensive line and to the game itself. But he’s also a great teammate.”“Frank has always prioritized the team and is a true warrior. He will always be a Lion,” the team stated in a statement.
