FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott isn’t worried about star linebacker Micah Parsons’ potential participation in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, despite the player’s contract situation.

I am confident. I told them that a long time ago. And I’m just going off experience, honestly. It’s no different than mine. I’m confident in that. I just hope, and I know he does too, that he’s ready to play.

Parsons, who is seeking a contract extension, has yet to participate in summer practices due to a “hold-in”. So far, there have been no conversations between the player and the management, who seem content with Parsons playing under the fifth-year option of his rookie contract. The owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, has also dismissed Parsons’ trade request. Prescott doesn’t consider Parsons’ situation to have been a distraction for the team.

There have been similar cases in the last three years, if not before. Not necessarily. I think people can take it as they want. I think it’s part of the way the guys think and see things here.

Trevon Diggs, one of Parsons’ closest friends on the team, is not sure if Parsons will play in the first game.

I just hope everything works out, that everything gets fixed. All the guys miss him. Everyone wants him there. I just hope everything is handled so we can go out and win.

Diggs mentioned that Parsons has been training on his own during training camp. Although he was not present during the part of the practice open to the media on Monday, he was seen at the end of the session.

I know he’s working. He wants to be there. I know what kind of person he is, I know what kind of worker he is. I know he wants to be there.

Regarding the August 1st transfer request, Diggs commented:

I’ve heard him say it before, that he plays for us. We go out there sweating, blood, sweat, and tears. We train together. So in the end, it’s being with us. I know he wants to be there with us. This is his home. This is his family. Why wouldn’t he want to be here?
