FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered an injury at the end of the game against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday night. Penix, despite the injury, did not leave the game and declared on Wednesday that his “plan” is to play on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. The player is dealing with a bone contusion in his left knee.

I feel good right now. Obviously, at the end of the game they saw that I got up a little slow, but I’ve felt good and I’m still improving every day, and I’m just making sure I monitor it the right way.

Penix was listed as limited on Wednesday, an estimation since the Falcons did not practice, only held a walkthrough. There will be more clarity on Penix’s status in the next two days. However, Falcons coach Raheem Morris did not seem overly concerned.

I feel very good about him. He’s the toughest guy. Obviously, it will be based on movement. It will be based on what he can do. The organization will not put him in danger. We won’t do that, so we’ll have a better idea of when we’re live.

In the event that Penix is unable to play, the Falcons have a reliable alternative: Kirk Cousins, with 14 years of NFL experience as a high-level quarterback. Morris highlighted the calmness that Cousins brings to the team.
