The New England Patriots, with the most cap space in the NFL, are open to significant trade opportunities, according to Eliot Wolf, executive vice president of player personnel.

During the team’s practice, Wolf stated that they are in conversations with all 31 franchises, seeking what’s best for the team. Although negotiations can be complex, they are willing to consider deals that benefit the Patriots.

With a 2-0 preseason record and a notable improvement under head coach Mike Vrabel, the Patriots have approximately $60 million in salary cap space.

When asked about the possibility of trading first or second round picks in a trade, Wolf stated that they would be willing to do so if they believe a player can help the team.

These statements from Wolf come at a time when several NFL stars, such as Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, Trey Hendrickson of the Cincinnati Bengals, and Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders, are in a contractual stalemate with their respective teams.

A possible challenge for the Patriots in a bold move is their long-term perspective on the salary cap.

Vrabel mentioned that the Patriots have a two-year plan for the salary cap and have intentionally followed it. Currently, the team exceeds the salary cap for 2026, the year cornerback Christian Gonzalez will be eligible for a contract extension.

Regarding how the Patriots view their abundant cap space, Wolf explained that it’s a long-term vision. Furthermore, the team has quarterback Drake Maye under a rookie contract. He also highlighted the investment in free agency this year, which, according to him, doesn’t reflect the team’s position.
