Carolina Panthers Release Josey Jewell

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Carolina Panthers announced on Tuesday the release of starting linebacker Josey Jewell, who has been in concussion protocol since suffering a head injury during the Week 15 overtime victory against the Arizona Cardinals last season. Jewell, 30 years old, signed a three-year, $22.75 million contract with Carolina in March 2024. According to a team spokesperson, Carolina hasn’t ruled out Jewell returning at some point if he fully recovers from the concussion. The spokesperson added that Jewell wants to focus on his health and recovery “out of consideration for his teammates.” Jewell was a fourth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2018 and remained with the organization until last season, where he had 97 tackles for Carolina despite missing the last two games. Christian Rozeboom, who signed a one-year contract with Carolina during the offseason, will likely become Jewell’s replacement alongside Trevin Wallace.
