Jordan Love Undergoes Thumb Surgery to Ensure a Healthy Season Start
Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has decided to undergo surgery on his left thumb (non-throwing hand) this week, after suffering a ligament injury in the preseason game against the New York Jets. Love seeks to avoid any physical problems that may affect his performance in the upcoming season, especially after dealing with injuries during the past season. The surgery, performed in Los Angeles, was to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). Love had been participating in Monday’s practice with his thumb taped, although adapting his game to avoid using his left hand in certain plays. Packers coach Matt LaFleur indicated that Love will not throw immediately, but is expected to participate in some activity next week. Malik Willis will be the starter in the next preseason game against the Colts. Love expects to start integrating gradually next week, assessing how he feels and preparing for the start of the season.“With the time we have now, finishing training camp and the preseason, and entering the season with the option of being 100% healthy, it was definitely the decision I wanted to make,” Love told reporters.
