Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed that starting running back Isiah Pacheco will return to the field for Thursday’s game against the Cowboys in Dallas. We’ll put it in the field. How long? I can’t say right now. We’ll see how it goes. Pacheco, 26, has been out since October 27 due to a right knee injury suffered during the victory over the Commanders. His participation in the game against the Cowboys will allow him to have ten days of rest before week 14, when the Chiefs will host the Texans on December 7 in a prime-time game. In the absence of Pacheco, the Chiefs have relied on Kareem Hunt, a nine-year veteran running back, aged 30. In Sunday’s victory against the Colts, Hunt achieved season highs in rushing attempts (30) and yards (104), with a touchdown. Before his injury, Pacheco averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Although he participated in all three practices last week, Reid preferred not to rush his return to the field with two games in a five-day span. In addition, the Chiefs bolstered their running back group on Monday with the addition of Dameon Pierce to their practice squad. Pierce, a three-year veteran, joined the team after being released by the Texans last week. In four games this season, Pierce recorded 10 rushing attempts for 26 yards. The Chiefs hope Pierce can debut in a limited role against the Texans, his former team.
The main thing right now is that he integrates and learns what we are doing, and from there we will see. It has been productive. He is a good player. Brett [Veach] always does a good job finding players and adding them to the squad. We’ll see how this goes.
