KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Isiah Pacheco, starting running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, is aiming to return to the field for Thursday afternoon’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to sources. Pacheco, 26, has been out since October 27, when he suffered a right knee injury during the victory over the Washington Commanders. If he plays against the Cowboys, Pacheco will have ten days to rest and recover before Week 14, when the Chiefs host the Houston Texans in a primetime game on December 7. In the absence of Pacheco, the Chiefs have relied heavily on running back Kareem Hunt, a nine-year veteran and 30 years old. In Sunday’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Hunt recorded 30 rushing attempts (the most of the season) for a total of 104 yards and a touchdown (also the most of the season). Before his injury, Pacheco averaged 4.2 yards per carry. He participated in the Chiefs’ three practices last week, but coach Andy Reid didn’t want him to play two games in a five-day span.

I think it’s going pretty well. I think that’s a plus.

The Chiefs also bolstered their running back group on Monday by adding Dameon Pierce, a three-year veteran, to their practice squad. Pierce joined the Chiefs after being released last week by the Texans. In four games this season, Pierce recorded 10 rushing attempts for 26 yards. The Chiefs hope Pierce can debut in their offense with a limited role against the Texans, his former team.
