Midtown Shooting: Police Officer and Civilian Injured, Suspect Dead

A New York City police officer and a civilian were injured on Monday outside an office building in Midtown that houses the headquarters of the National Football League (NFL) and some of the country’s most important financial firms, according to police sources.

The suspect took his own life after fleeing inside the 44-story building, located at 345 Park Avenue. He died on the 33rd floor of the building, according to sources.

NFL employees were told to shelter in place. The NFL occupies floors five through eight.

The New York Fire Department reported that emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building on Monday evening due to a report of shots fired. A spokesperson indicated that the call was received around 6:30 p.m., but did not provide further details.

Local television images showed rows of people evacuating the office building with their hands up. The building houses offices of Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, and the Irish consulate general.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino posted on social media that agents and other agency personnel were responding to provide support to what he described as an “active crime scene”.

Mayor Eric Adams reported on social media about an “active shooter investigation” in Midtown. He urged people to stay indoors and take safety precautions if they are in the area.

The city’s emergency management alert system warned of traffic delays, road closures, and public transportation disruptions in the area.
