NFL Strengthens its Anti-Gambling Policy for Players

The NFL has reminded its players about the prohibition of participating in any form of illegal gambling and betting on league games. This guideline was communicated through a memorandum sent to the 32 teams. The main goal is to safeguard the integrity of the game and ensure that it is played fairly and honestly. The league emphasizes the responsibility of the players to protect the trust of the fans and avoid risks related to betting.

We all have a responsibility to protect the integrity of the Shield, ensuring that our game is played fairly, honestly, and with the utmost effort from each player.

This measure comes after an FBI investigation into illicit betting activities that resulted in arrests, underscoring the risks faced by all sports in the current environment.
  • Do not bet on NFL games.
  • Do not fix or manipulate any NFL game or event.
  • Do not share confidential information about NFL games, players, or events.
The NFL Players Association also sent a similar memorandum, highlighting that players should not bet on the NFL, nor at team facilities, nor while traveling, nor in team hotels. They should also not ask others to bet for them, share “insider information,” or enter betting houses during the NFL season, except to access another part of the casino, or promote any form of gambling or gambling entity. NFL players can legally bet on other sports outside of club facilities or when not traveling with the team. They can also participate in traditional fantasy football leagues (with prizes not exceeding $250) and legally bet in casinos in their free time.
