Najee Harris Suffers Eye Injury from Fireworks Accident

Chargers running back Najee Harris suffered an eye injury due to a fireworks accident during a July 4th event, according to his agent, Doug Hendrickson. Hendrickson indicated that the injury is “superficial” and that Harris is expected to be ready for the next NFL season. The agent also mentioned that the incident caused injuries to several attendees. One person was hospitalized after losing fingers in the accident that occurred in Antioch, California, according to reports. In March, Harris signed a one-year contract with the Chargers, and is expected to play a crucial role in rebuilding the team’s ground offense. If Harris couldn’t play, the Chargers would have to rely heavily on first-round rookie Omarion Hampton. The Chargers haven’t had a running back with more than 1,000 rushing yards since 2017, when Melvin Gordon achieved 1,105 yards.
Najee Harris is set to play his first season for the Chargers after spending his first four seasons with the Steelers.
Harris ran for over 1,000 yards in each of his first four seasons with the Steelers. Since then, the Chargers have unsuccessfully sought to build an effective ground offense. Even last season, despite promises from coach Jim Harbaugh and his team about the running game in Los Angeles, the team fell below the league average in rushing yards per game (110.7). Harris’ physical running style is something Harbaugh values, and it could make a difference in the Chargers’ ground offense next season. The Chargers declined to comment.
