The Giants tied an NFL record by suffering their fifth loss of the season after leading by double digits, this time in overtime against the Lions, with a score of 34-27. Star receiver Malik Nabers expressed his bewilderment at the situation through a tweet that was later deleted.

Sometimes I think they make us lose on purpose. How can you throw the ball instead of running it to burn two timeouts? And then you don’t kick the field goal? Then they have to score! Football common sense! Am I missing something?

Malik Nabers
Nabers referred to a series of decisions in the final moments of the match. Interim coach Mike Kafka opted for a running play that left the Giants on the Lions’ 2-yard line with just over three minutes remaining. Then, Jameis Winston threw an incomplete pass and the Giants lost yards on a run on third down. Kafka, known for his aggressiveness, decided to go for the touchdown and the two-score lead. The Lions forced an incomplete pass and took possession from their own 6-yard line, only needing a field goal to tie the game. Jake Bates made a 59-yard field goal to tie the score. Detroit took the victory after Jahmyr Gibbs scored a 69-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime. The Giants suffered their twelfth consecutive road loss, extending a franchise record. The five times they squandered double-digit leads were away from home. Wan’Dale Robinson, who had a personal record of 156 receiving yards, commented that the situation sometimes seemed unreal. Kafka defended his decisions in the game.

Our decision was the right one. I stand by it.

The Giants now have a 2-5 record in games where they have had a double-digit lead.
Nabers Questions Giants' Strategy After Overtime Loss
El entrenador interino Mike Kafka no se arrepintió de sus decisiones en el último cuarto.
Even though Winston threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns, the Giants lost their second game of the season with more than 500 total offensive yards. Winston took some of the responsibility, mentioning an interception and a failed pass to Robinson in Detroit territory.

I just have to focus on finishing for us. We can be better in crucial moments. We have one of the best offensive lines in the league. And I’m grateful for that. That’s where it starts. I just have to do a better job for us.

Jameis Winston
Jaxson Dart remains in concussion protocol. If cleared, the Giants plan to return to him next Monday night against the New England Patriots, despite Winston’s good performance.

I like Jaxson if he is healthy and ready to play.
