Jonathan Mingo Could Start the Season on the Reserve List Due to Injury

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Jonathan Mingo is facing the possibility of starting the season on the injured reserve list due to a posterior cruciate ligament sprain in his right knee.

The injury occurred during last week’s preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens.

According to sources close to the team, Mingo could be out of action for between 4 and 6 weeks, or even longer.

The injury occurred during a 49-yard reception in the third quarter. After the play, Mingo was targeted on the next play, but he limped towards the sideline before heading to the medical tent. He was immediately ruled out.

Last year, the Cowboys acquired Mingo and a seventh-round pick in 2025 in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Carolina Panthers. In eight games, Mingo managed five receptions for 46 yards, although he had no receptions from starting quarterback Dak Prescott, who missed the last nine games of 2024 due to a hamstring injury that required surgery.

The Cowboys have the option to place two players on the injured reserve/designated to return list when finalizing their 53-man roster on August 26. Without this designation, the player would have to be on the 53-man roster for one day before being moved to the injured reserve list.

Mingo was competing for one of the receiver positions behind CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, and KaVontae Turpin. With Mingo out for the start of the season, the remaining receiver positions on the Cowboys will be contested between Jalen Tolbert, Ryan Flournoy, Jalen Brooks, Jalen Cropper, and possibly Traeshon Holden, an undrafted rookie.
